Recommended show: The Very Best (Esau Mwamwaya & Radioclit) at LPR, 7/18

The Very Best is the project of Malawian singer Esau Mwamwaya and Euro-producer duo Radioclit.  Late last year they released a free mixtape online that used featured Mwamwaya’s warm vocals in English, Portugese, Swahili and Chichewa laid over remixes of tunes by everyone from Vampire Weekend to M.I.A. to Michael Jackson.  Overall the result was a collage of upbeat dance/world/pop and was one of the best releases of ‘08.

The Very Best is back in ‘09 with their first album of all original material, Warm Heart of Africa.  Better yet, they’re coming thru for 4 U.S. shows next month including a Saturday night stop at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC on July 18.  Tickets still available here, get one now before they’re gone.  Download the entire mixtape below.
